Why AIWB Carry? & The Top 3 AIWB Holsters

AIWB Dark Star Gear holster for M&P 2.0 with Dark Wing and belt loops.

The purpose of this article is for the everyday urban civilian concealed carry. Not for duty police, open carry, military of any sorts. This is a specific topic for those who are new to concealed carry, looking to start carrying and those who’ve been carry on the hip but being eying AIWB for some time now.

Holsters, in almost every town there is someone making holsters. It doesn’t mean they are good quality, safe and efficient. What are the main key items to look for when purchasing your holster?
1) It should have a good trigger guard. Kydex holsters are phenomenal, where no matter how hard you press on the trigger guard it would not flex inward. That’s why the sloppy dangerous nylon holsters are the worse of the holster lineup, follow by leather and hybrid holstes. Leather holsters are marginally acceptable as long as they are not worn out.

2) It must hold the gun securely. The right amount of tightness where if you perform a somersault the gun won’t come flying out, or if you get thrown to the ground the gun won’t come out. It should not be too tight or too loose. I good nice audible click when reholstering.

3 Enough space to get a good grip, when you go to draw your gun, you should get a full draw grip. I see many holsters where the grip of the gun touches or rest on top of the pants and belt, there is no space to get your fingers to get a good draw stroke. The holsters listed below in this article all have a perfect ride height where you can get a good grip for a fast and nice draw stroke.

Hybrid holsters such as the Alien Gear holsters are dangerous and here is why https://defensivepopulace.net/why-your-hybrid-holster-is-dangerous/
The infamous OWB (outside the waistband) holster Blackhawk Serpa retention holsters are extremely dangerous and has been proven over and over in real life and in Craig Douglas ECQC class , multiple discussion and articles on that already which I’m not going to go over here. Many quality defensive pistol classes throughout the country do not allow this holster or strong advise against using it in their classes. For OWB retention holsters the Safariland ALS line is the way go to!

Why carry AIWB? This type of carry  are for those wanting to carry around the front of their waistband, the A standing for appendix. AKA the appendix carry. This style of carry wasn’t popular, and was even deemed unsafe back in the days. However, its popularity has grown, especially over the past decade. It has also been found to be a perfectly safe way to carry. With quality holsters along with modern striker fire pistols such as the Smith & Wesson M&Ps line and Glocks have several safeties built in to them. Examples are, the trigger safety. In the M&P line, the trigger safety prevents movement until the pivoting trigger is pulled while a spring loaded plunger prevents firing pin movement until the rearward movement of the trigger bar deactivates it. Fashion Mall Shooting Incident in Murray, UT

A summery of my take on the Fashion Place Mall shooting incident and what should a trained concealed carrier do if one were near or around where a similar incident.
I prefer to wait 24 to 48 hours before saying anything and making any comments after a larger scale shooting incident. This morning, more information is out, which agrees with my theory based on the initial information I received from one of my local news outlet, KSL LIVE: Continuing coverage on the shooting at Fashion Place Mall in Murray on Sunday afternoon.

KSL news article on the afternoon of the shooting Police hunting for 3 suspects after shooting sparks ‘panic’ at Fashion Place mall in Utah

Sunday around 3:30 pm local time, I was having brunch at a restaurant in South Jordan which is about 15-20 minutes drive from where I was at to the mall. While eating, I saw my local news feeds live stream on FB that a “shooting” at the Fashion Place Mall in Murray. It resulted in two people being injured. Wow it’s a shooting, the media make it look big, like always. Then an hour later, I saw the video along with photos of people being escorted in a line with their hands up (typical escorted evacuate setup we seen in many school and other shootings that occurred indoors)  out of the mall. Local LEO and SWAT members were all around with their AR-15 carbines. Local media reported that there were three suspects (shooters?) that fled the area and are at “large.” Continue reading “Fashion Mall Shooting Incident in Murray, UT” »

Why Your Hybrid Holster is Dangerous

What could possible go wrong with my hybrid holster? More hybrid holster hate and why…

Wearing such holster al day is comfortable on the waist. Until a mishap 😳 occurs due to;

1) The sweat shield starts to snag after wear.

2) Upon resholster, the trigger guard collapses. Most people will have to use their second hand to assist in reholster. Some folks even to point the muzzle towards their waste to snake it in. Seen this in one of the classes I attended. All of this struggle and you’re playing with your safety! 😥

3) Makes it cumbersome to reholster countless times during an 8 hour defensive concealed carry class, at the same time it increases the risk by tenfold. Many known instructors will strongly advise against such holster in their classes beside the infamous Black Hawk Serpa.

Gruesome Ax Attack – Complying Doesn’t Always Work

An update on this gruesome attack that took place in Commifornia.
The victim offer to pay the attacker with what he had but in return, the victim received server blows with an ax.

I’ve mention before that complying doesn’t always work. This is based on multiple cases throughout the country in the past 5 years I’ve came across. You should never have the attacker decide your fate. Your life is 1000 times more precious than these low life thugs and no other human, scumbag has the right to end your life. Center of Face More Important Than Center Mass

Like it or not, we are at war with lone wolf terrorist that are rising at an alarming rate. In the past two years we seen a rise of lone wolf gunman jihadist in France and the US. These death loving barbarians recently added an additional weapon, a vehicle in to the mix of their weapons of choice.

The New Paradigm

bodyarmor
Typical Kevlar body armor.

When you got a terrorist gunman out in the loose, you must assume that he is wearing body armor or a bomb vest. Recall the Aurora, Colorado shooter? He was wearing tactical gear, a ballistic helmet and a vest.
The Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen tried to buy bulk ammunition and heavy-duty body armor from a gun shop. Armor plates are design to defeat most rifle caliber with some exceptions. Even jihadist wearing kevlar (assuming is rated quality and in new condition) will stop all common handgun rounds. Concealed carries carry handguns, not rifles, that tells us we definitely need to aim for the ocular window, side of the head and neck to stop the threat from racking up more body counts.

In an FBI study on Active Shooter events (up to 2012) showed that in 5% of events, the terrorists brought crude bomb vests. It’s very common for terrorist overseas to use bomb vest. What stops them from making home made explosive devices and using it here in the US? Continue reading “Center of Face More Important Than Center Mass” »

Virginian Residents Are a Bliss As Reciprocity Expands!

Anti freedom politicians didn’t realize that they would create a boomerang effect when their Attorney General decided to stop recognizing 25 states. Well that didn’t go as planed for them, thanks to the VCDL and all other gun owners who showed up for Lobby Day and pressure from other states as well.

July 1st the new law takes effect. Virginia now is required to recognize all states concealed carry permits. Recently we just gain Nevada and Georgia which I’m extremely happy.
But as soon as the first of this month rolled in, Maine and Colorado just officially recognizes Virginia. New Hampshire should follow soon.

Below is the current reciprocity map for VA concealed handgun permit holders. It’s a beautiful map isn’t it? A year ago I never thought we will this lucky  And for those with UT, AZ or FL permits will have one or two more states.

Rules of Engagement for Concealed Carries

MP-Shield-9mm

The reason law abiding citizens obtain a concealed carry permit to carry a firearm is to prevent or avoid a life-altering event of the severest kind from taking place to them, a family member or friends who are with them. Making the wrong decision can hurt you in the aftermath by the court of law. Your gun is your last resort, don’t shoot to defend property, but life. Be sure to thoroughly know and understand your state’s law (and states you will be traveling to that has reciprocity with your home state) regarding using lethal force.
Reevaluate some of your personal self-defense concepts by reading this article written by an off-duty cop.
